Moving to play

Viewalk is the mobile fitness gaming platform in which you move to play. It is also a novel way to navigate virtual spaces on your own two feet such as this architectural scene; my I Know Kung Fu space originally created for the HoloCap HMD-based VR demo.

Inspiration from Counter-Strike's Dust 2 map

Taking inspiration from the classic and very popular Counter-Strike map Dust 2, this demolition type level design features a spawn point at the middle left and right (hidden), with two bomb sites - one at the top middle and one between the clock tower and the mast.

Urban design theory for level design

Using lessons from architecture and urban design theory, I designed this tiny pirates island city with three different and distinct “districts” to make it easier to navigate and orient the player. There are remnants of the natural island to the west, and a more affluent part of town with the harbor on the east side and a shanty town like area to the north.

Taking lessons from The Image of the City by Kevin Lynch, the level design has paths and nodes, and edges between districts and a clock tower serving as a landmark for easy orientation.

Construction Island was designed as a lobby for people to hang out and explore as well as train on how to shoot various types of paintball guns.

Friendly vibes in an online social space

Using the warm colors of the sunset and friendly toys and paintball weapons for play, parrots and an island radio, the mood is set for a relaxing social hangout on the Viewalk platform.

Arctic Lockdown - a cinematic approach

Using a cinematic coloring approach of minimizing the different hues in the world, Arctic Lockdown was designed as a very small 1v1 or 2v2 team death match level. From the outside the world seems cold and large.

From the inside, the world is almost black and white (original work title) with only the warm, yellow lighting creating the colors and contrasting the bluish exterior. Here a 1x1m cube and character has been temporarily inserted for scale reference.

Walkable first person shooter games

Viewalk’s technology enables the only mobile action game platform where the player moves in reality to control their avatar in the virtual world. This provide the player with a much more immersive and realistic gaming experience, enables precise and natural player movements. It innovates the first person shooter genre that for so many years have relied on mouse, keyboard or controllers for movement input.
